Each episode was designed to offer accessible insight while encouraging listeners to explore related workshops and educational programs, both free and paid.

Interview with George Takei & Fundraiser

Purpose:
In this episode, George Takei shared his personal experiences of Japanese American internment during World War II and reflected on the importance of memory, justice, and civil rights. The conversation provided historical insight and emotional context leading into a significant community gathering.

Follow-Up Event:
On February 18, 2024, George Takei visited Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin for two events. The morning featured a free service where he spoke on “What Buddhism Means to Me.” In the evening, he headlined a fundraising event at Pacific Buddhist Academy, reflecting on Day of Remembrance through stories, food, and community dialogue. The podcast served as a meaningful prelude to these in-person engagements.

Generative AI Podcast + Workshop

Purpose:
This episode featured educator and AI expert Gabriel Yanagihara, who introduced the fundamentals of generative AI in a clear, community-centered way. The goal was to make AI accessible to beginners in Hawaiʻi, showing how these tools can be applied in everyday work, education, and creative projects.

Follow-Up Event:
On August 25, 2024, Gabriel led a Generative AI Workshop for Beginners offering both in-person and virtual sessions. Attendees were through hands-on exercises with AI tools. The podcast served as a lead-in, helping listeners feel confident and curious about exploring emerging technology.

Starting a Podcast with Kenji Cataldo

Purpose:
This episode featured Kenji Cataldo, Lead Audio Steward of Hawaiʻi Rising, who shared practical guidance on how to launch a podcast with purpose and integrity. Kenji covered everything from concept development to community-centered storytelling, with an emphasis on accessibility and local relevance.

Follow-Up Event:
Kenji led an Intro to Podcasting Workshop at ʻŌlelo Community Media, where participants learned about recording setups, gear selection, and basic editing. The workshop gave aspiring podcasters the tools to start telling their own stories.

Networking 101 with Piiku Co. + Virtual Panel Discussion

Purpose:
This episode featured Carlo Liquido and Hana Nakano of Piʻikū Co., who offered practical advice for creatives and tech professionals in Hawaiʻi on how to build meaningful, culturally grounded professional relationships. The discussion focused on local-first networking, mentorship, and growing a career in Hawaiʻi’s close-knit creative and tech communities.

Follow-Up Event:
Following the podcast, ʻŌlelo and Piʻikū Co. hosted a virtual networking panel discussion discussing Tech Talent in Hawaiʻi: Growing, Connecting, and Thriving. UX designers and tech leaders shared their experiences and strategies for career development. The podcast served as an engaging introduction that drove interest and registration for the live event.
